[Hybrid]

Sorry guys, I only seem to get on here when my friend has an issue with their Jimny. Not exactly giving back to the community but here goes. M13A Jimny overheats to the point the engine cuts out due to a failed hose. I get the call up to which my response is "blown head gasket/warped head/seized engine/all of the above". To my surprise after a replaced hose it appears to run and drive fine. How is this possible? Do these have a cutout when the coolant hits a max temp? The only other thing I can think of is a crank or cam sensor actually dropping out due to the heat before catastrophic failure of the engine. Any other ideas?

I overheated mine once, it was up in the red so I shut it down (fan clutch died, I was on the beach). It wouldn't start again, it would just crank over but not fire at all. Once it had cooled down a bit it ran like nothing ever happened.

Dunno if there is an actually cut out but it sure seems like it.

No cutout I'm aware of. Possible reason could be fuel vaporisation.

crank angle sensor generally , once they get too hot they wont produce a signal to the ecu , a good test if it is happening is to pour water over it when it wont start . a good test to make it happen is to hit it with a hair drier.

Good thinking..... I used to boil the jug but would run out of hot water before reaching temp.

I made the same mistake with mine, beach driving alone fraser, turned the car off, walked away for 5 min, came back to the car and it wouldn't start as it have overheated... I should have known better, driving in soft sand for probably 20 min...

Anyhow, we waited another half hour, it started fine and cooled down. I did find if you turn the key to the position just before you start the car (and turn off the A/C/fan) the cooling fan seems to start if the car has overheated, it seems to turn off once the car has cooled down out of the red. Same as you, no noticeable problem after it occurred.
