Ok guys you can bag me out for not finding anything but honestly I've searched but it is hard to work out what to search.
Right then.
Where does the air go when you turn off the locker?
So with mine I hit the pump and the locker switch and all works, pump starts locker solenoid opens air gets to locker. Locker does it's thing and locks the two shafts and I get out of trouble.
Now the tricky bit, I turn off the locker - it stays engaged, I turn off the pump as well - it stays engaged. I disconnect the hose from the outport side of the locker solenoid and bingo air gets out and locker disengages.
As curiosity got the better of me,I pulled the solenoid apart and yep nowhere for the air to get away.
The solution I can think of is A the solenoid is the wrong one - get the right one and move on B be corrected and sort out what is wrong C get a 3 way solenoid that does have an exit port and winner winner chicken dinner.

The air dumps out of the solenoid. They're basically a three way solenoid. Where did the solenoid come from?
Steve.

You answered your own question. If your solenoid doesn't exhaust the downstream (locker side) line when off then you need to get one that does. Basically when the solenoid is off the air line upstream of the solenoid is pressurised and the downstream line is at atmospheric pressure. When the solenoid is on the exhaust port is closed and the upstream and downstream lines are connected and pressurised. This locks and maitains in the locked position the locker. Once the solenoid is turned off again the exhaust port is opened, the downstream line drops to atmospheric allowing the locker spring to disengage. It's been years since I've looked at this but I'm pretty sure it's the same basic principle whether an ARB or Chinasoong locker.

I kinda guessed that Hybrid but l have had this locker set up for a long time now and have only decided to check it. I think the underlying thing here is I have changed the locker centre and maybe the old one leaked enough to release itself whereas this new one doesn't. I have ordered a solenoid from ARB so see what that looks like And to be safe a 3 way from fleabay

Well l found the problem. The two solenoid were blocked. We put a drill, down each and now they work fine. They were so tightly packed with mud they looked like they were machined. I tried first with a bit of wire but nothing. Anyway if nothing else this may help someone else. Ha ha

that would be the carry over oil from the diff and dust. If the seals leak a bit you get a small out of oil into the locker when depressurised and this then makes its way out when the solenoid exhausts
