| Post subject: | Jimny Manual shift to Electric transfer |
Hi, I'm sure many have looked at the Jimny electric shift tbox with a view to converting it to manual shift. So put me out of my misery if you can advise please!! I don't have mine out of the car but looking at pics it seems the casting is still on the Elec tbox for a manual shift lever. I wonder if the actual internal selector shaft is just an extended version of the old manual selector shaft, to accommodate the electric mechanism on the rear end?? Maybe it still has the manual selector requirements on the front end of the shaft? In which case, reinstate the manual selector lever in the casting (might not be a simple job either), remove the electric pinion gear, and its ready to go???? I can easily modify the electrics to give indication from the two tbox external switches. ![]()

just so your aware and it may have no bearing on what your doing. those pics are of a sierra transfer conversion for a jimny which im guessing your not looking at doing. you realistically should be able to get a manual jimny transfer and bolt it in. there is a hole in the floor already from memory for the stick that you just take a plate off of. zuknutter Paul should be around to help soon as he has done thing in his. |

I heard a rumour that the hole in the floor didn't get punched after a certain date. |

The hole in mine was covered with a plate and screwed down with screws almost 2 inches long. To the OP; the casting is different between the push button and lever operated transfers. It does look like they've just plated over the hole, but they are completely different. I looked into this mod and couldn't see any way to get the manual shifter to work with this case. And sorry I didn't have any more detailed photos for you to help with your earlier questions. Download the manual via the link in one of the last posts in my tech tread on the transfer reduction gears, there should be a lot of answers in there for you. |
