Anyone had any luck using a bearing puller or similar to get the collar off without having to grind and fuck it ? |

Are you trying to reuse the collar because you pressed it on and forgot about the backing plate or being a tightarse? I believe they are a use once only type item. You could try a bearing separator, but grinding and chisel it pretty efficient and doesn't fuck anything, besides the bearing and collar. |

solid bench solid vice solid (and sharp) cold chisel ball pein hammer.. a solid one too Must have eye protection! Clamp the axle on an angle in the vice jaws so the collar is kind of upright but the bottom of the collar must also be touching the top of the vice jaws set the cold chisel on the top of the collar in line with the axle several good whacks on the chisel with your big hammer will stretch the collar slightly and it will loosen and then all you got to do is press the bearing off this way you can remove the bearing and not risk crap getting inside it |

The last set I did the collars had 5 thou of inference!! Very hard to get on (used a bearing warmer and a ~15T press). Got no idea how you would get it off intact without destroying everything around it. Would not be keen in reusing it either. |
