Has anyone in Queensland had a 4agze mod plated? Did you have to upgrade your brakes? Though my projects an sc12 on a g16 I figure that what is required will be pretty similar. I was going to go to the vented Vit rotors and calipers anyway but I wondered if I'd need a rear disk conversion also.

The book I have is a bit old so you may need to double check this information. It comes from the Code of Practice - Light Motor Vehicles

The Sierra should fall under the category "All vehicles orignally having a 4 cylinder engine or rotary engine as the largest optional engine and weighing less than 1100kg". For vehicles in that category with a supercharger or turbocharger fitted to the engine, said engine's maximum capacity in millilitres (cc):

original weight (kg) x 2.5

Now I have just been ratting through some of my doco but can't find the Sierra's weight. I am 99% sure that it is greater than 800kg, but just to be conservative let's say it is. 800 x 2.5 = 2000. Now consider section 2.3.1.3 (note that engine size calculation information was contained in schedule B):

"The schedule B lists the maximum capacity of engines fitted as part of a vehicle modification.

Vehicles withe engines of greater capacity than that provided in schedule B will not be acceptable for registration as a modifed production vehicle. In addition, even within the limits specified, it remains the responsibility of the Authorised Officer to ensure that the engine is suitable for the vehicle. An engine may not be a suitable replacement even though it's capacity falls within the specified limits, for example its mass may be excessive."

As for upgraded safety equipment, section 2.3.2.1 states:

"...Vehicles manufactured after January 1 1977, unmodified brakes - no test, only continue to meet all requirements of Australian Design Rule 31."

There are several other sections of the safety upgrade covering seat belts, windscreen washers, windscreen wipers, demister, mirrors, steering column, indicators and glass. As far as I can tell the Sierra, in standard form, meets all these requirements.

you will only get a mod plate for a 1.6, after that you are talking to engineers about what you want to do and the power levels you will have, then youll need a plan of how to still comply with the relevent ADR's like brakes and emmisions, which he would then approve in theory and you do it and its tested, which I think might be expensive

all the weight for capacity stuff is 1 level higher than the basic local mechanic sticking a plate on stuff

Hybrid, check your compliance plate at post up the list of ADRs on it.

Has anyone got access to ADRs? It would be a good resource to have in the tech section.

Well went down to get a pic of the ADRs on my compliance plate only to realise that my zook was recovered stolen before I'd owned it. I had forgotten but it no longer has a compliance plate. So I can't give you a list of the ADRS.
