GV 2005 V6 2.5 5 door Auto. This started about a month ago. After 40km/h you start to hear very faintly a rapid clicking noise. As you build up to 100km/h the sound gets louder. The sound is noticeable but its not piercing. This clicking noise is coming from under the Auto Transmission Lever. At the same time as the clicking noise it sounds like air is being let in underneath there. A constant "whoosh of air" sound - no whistling. The clicking sound is louder than the whooshing sound. If I stick it in Neutral at 80KM/H, the noise continues. I took it to the mechanic for a regular service and he thinks there is no issue. Just standard sound but its not. He said he took a look underneath and didnt notice anything. While the transmission oil looks fine, I do want to get it replaced as well as the filters. Its done 180k kms and it may never have been done before. I am not sure if this will resolve the issue. There is no drop in performance or other noises. My next step is to try and pull the plastic surrounding the Lever to see if I can pinpoint where the sound is coming from. Anyone seen something similar? |

1. Classic zip tie prank. Zip tie around the prop shaft, OR 2. Rubber seal on the shift leaver has come loose, flapping with increased speed and sucking air from pressure diff, inside low pressure outside high pressure. Pull apart the centre console like you suggest. That's my guess too. |

Can you record the sound? From my experience, the autos make a funny sound, chattering type sound, which is much worse when in OD, then they lose reverse. No idea how long it takes from the chattering to losing reverse. |

I never use OD but the sounds continue the same in OD and ATPower. I am not looking forward to replacing or repairing the transmission. |
