Setting up the steering on my front diff.

Coils lux diffs 60 steering.

The steering arm is inline with the panhard at the diff but up at the pitman it is 30mm lower centre to centre, basically the bar thickness out.

Is this going to cause big issues with bump steer or is it acceptable?

Its about as close as i can get it withe the diff and arms all wanting to be in the same spot.

Cheers!

Edited to make sense

You will want them parallel.

It probably won't make much of a difference. If its for onroad, Try get it perfect.

+1
Ideally parallel.
Lower the pin at the diff 30mm if you can.

To be honest, even at 30mm out the steering will be significantly better than a leaf sierra.

I don't think it really matters, most 4wds don't have them lined up anyway. Obviously parallel is ideal though.

Unless you fitted the panhard backwards (chassis end passengers side) it's always going to be a million miles better than just leaf springs which obviously work on a vertical axis as opposed to the arc of the drag link. I've never driven a leaf sprung car where bump steer was an issue.

See how this:

Seemingly contradict each other?

Yet, bumpsteer is real and an issue in 4WD's with a panhard rod, and in some road cars.

That's because bumpsteer isn't as much of an issue in leaf spring cars because there's always plenty of lateral movement in the springs and bushes.

Sure if you bounce a leaf car up and down the steering wheel swings freely, but if you hold the steering wheel and someone bounces the car, there's very little force behind that movement. but put an out of phase panhard on a car and you'll get real force in the steering.

Remember too that in motion, the steering damper, damping of the damper, and the design of the power steering box will try to lock the steering up and you'll get bump steer as the suspension fights the steering. But there's very little force to fight the steering in a leaf car.

Hope that makes sense.
