So car is still out of order at the moment, I thought I would turn to you guys a bit of advice it's a 2002 grand vitara v6 2.5 all timing chains are off and rocker covers etc. Just a warning that I'm pretty new to this so don't be too mean :lol:

Now the main harmonic balancer nut can't be turned by hand once you get half a rotation in it? I've got a metre long breaker bar and still won't budge? However it will turn over when using the keys like turning it on. I'm pretty sure that for the firing order that cylinder 1 is the one closest to the front of the car and is on the passenger side and when your looking through it you can see piston 1 moving up and down?

Just wanted to see if you guys have any ideas for me!

Can you confirm- are you cranking the engine over with no timing chains installed?

If you've got the spark plugs out it should turn over really easily by hand, unless its hitting a valve. I wouldn't be cranking it with the chains off, I'm pretty sure they're an interference motor so the valves can hit the pistons if a chain snaps, or is off in this case.
The cams and crank really should be locked in position when the chains are moved.

Ouch. I think it's likely you've bent the valves. The heads will have to come off for a rebuild.

That's the way it looks to me at least.

I'd be pulling the heads off to have a look. But I think a low km replacement motor is going to be the cheapest way out of this....

Is this still part of the problem from your build thread where it died in early Jan?

If so, I would probably just look for a low km replacement engine.

Yeah mate that's the one, haven't really had any days to do work on it unfortunately, breaks my heart Hahaha

Did post this on the build thread but thought I would give you guys some good news!
So the car started yesterday after another day of checking compression and injectors and buying a new fuel filter so yeah stoked as!

Running a bit rough but I think that's just old fuel (4 months) so once we drive is around the block a few times to make sure everything is doing what it's meant to do I'll fill it up with some 98 octane a few times.
