Hi Guys, So pulled the front of the Drover motor off to replace the water pump, timing belt, cover and radiator. Hoped that the worn timing belt cover (see other thread) was the source of the whine noise from the front of the motor. Sadly not. Have a listen to this short clip of the motor starting and stopping. https://www.dropbox.com/s/evcs6nwo381p1 ... e.mp3?dl=0 Note this with the fan belt removed so no water pump or alternator or fan movement. The noise still seems to be coming from the front of the motor. When I did the initial service on this it looked like the oil was so old it originally came straight from the dinosaurs arse rather than going through any intermediate steps. I wonder if this has damaged the oil pump? Any thoughts? |

Maybe either sucking air in the pick up tube from the sump or partially blocked screen on the pick up. |

I'm going to drop the sump on the weekend and take a look. My money is currently on a blocked screen (well, I'm hoping that's what it is as that's the cheapest fix!) |

If it's blocked you've got big issues |

How did this go? I'd think there'll be issues down the track with cam and big end/main bearings |

So it went...OK. Noise immediately reduced significantly to the point where you have to listen hard to hear it. One first startup there is nothing but after maybe 10-15 seconds it creeps back in - nowhere near as bad as before. Thing is, the engine is now running like a dream - starts instantly and hums away with no issues at all so its a lot better than it was. Given the intended purpose and the very small number of km it will do probably not worth chasing it much further. |

So ran it for another 10 minutes and noise has now completely gone - running like a well oiled singer... |
