How many km had it done? How hard was it used? My 7.2s failed the same way after 70, 000 km. Wasnt abused too much, but near the end got punished a little. |

Im a pretty conservative driver, never bent any transfer mounts. They failed when i was slowly accelerating on the road in a 60k zone with open diffs so it wasn't an isolated thing it was long term damage as wxplained in the video. I did contact trail tough and the best they could offer was $100 off a new gear and i had to pay for postage back to them and then back to me! Losers |

The counters are all wear and tear items imo. The bigger the ratio, the bigger the loads, the more rotational load that cause the gears/shafts/thrust washers to wear. Once they wear and rotate a little, it can move more, meaning less contact area and then contact areas wear faster. Its a slippery slope. Id like to see how they all wear over time |

Have you opened it to check the thrust washers and needle bearings etc? |

I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT GOES ON WITH QUALITY CONTROL IN THIS INDUSTRY My TT 6.4's have been hated on for years and apart from being a little noisy from all the pitting on the gears, caused by me filling the thing full of water/mud twice and rusting the gears up, is perfect. One minute I hear trail gear spools are junk, then they're good. Then I hear trail tough spools are good, then they're junk. I've had a fantastic run out of all my TT stuff, but it's all old. It seems like these "random" failures aren't random at all and basic quality control (dimensional and surface hardness) checks would catch most of these problems. |

I mean there is no sign of wear or ovalling or anything on the internal surfaces of the counter gear but it is oversize from end to end. I probably left it way too long to put the burn video up... oh well sometimes its hard to do stuff |
