Hi all,

well i just finished installing my new clutch fan on my g16b vitara, i thought some of the people might find it helpful.

i bought this from suzistore for $165 and its a full flow brand.

first things first disconnet the neg on the battery, then you need to remove the 4 bolts that hold in the fan shroud. 1 in each corner.

then the 4 bolts that hold the fan on can be removed.

then carefully remove the shroud and fan together with out damaging the radiator. you will then have this below


carefully remove the 4 mounting bolts, they can be tight so dont use the blades to push against, they will break.

at this point, inspect the fan for any cracks or damage and replace, you can then fit the fan to the cluch and tighten

i also replaced my fan belt, but install is the same as remove.



while the shroud is out it is a good idea to get the hose against the rad to clean out any crap that may be externally in the fin's. wash from the engine side out, i was amazed at how much crap came of it.

hope this helps someone, could be done in 30 mins. took me a bit longer as i cleaned rad and fitted belts.

Might as well do the timing belt and water pump while you're in there

No wait... I should have doen the fan clutch while I had the front apart to do the belts... Damn.

ahah nah, water pump is only 30 thou old and timing belt is about 50 thou. still got heaps left, and this is a 30 min job compared to a half day job.
you can do this without touching the belts, or draining the coolant

cant really tell at the moment, as it was only getting hot when sitting at lights for a while after a long drive. but the gauge isnt moving at all from normal, while b4 it would move ever so slightly higher after a few minutes of idle. well worth the money and time for the confidence i have in it now.

you weren't interested in just adding more fan oil?
its $15 and about 5 minutes more work

nah, i like the idea of new parts over re-conditioned parts. i might strip down the old one and fill it up with some new oil then pop it up for sale.

Any tips for getting the fan pulley bolts off the water pump. I stopped after the heads started to get damaged. I even INOX'ed and waited 2 hours first. Thinking I need a longer ring spanner, I only have a 150mm one.
