EG... Do rear narrow track diff centers fit wide track... do coily diff centers fit leafy diffs and visa versa.. |

Ratios are different. Coily 3.9 WT 3.7 NT 3.9 with smaller bolt spacing for tailshaft. |

Hhhmmm so does the coily one actually fit into a leafy. The ratio is close enough to be ok as long as 4x4 not engaged on a hard surface.. My Delica has a slightly different ratio on the rear LSD but seems ok and it has been like that for a couple of years.. |

All 1.3 centres will fit your housing if that's the way you want to go. |

If you MUST mismatch ratios (and I wouldn't unless you knew exactly what you were trying to accomplish) put the taller ratio in the front. Putting the taller ratio in the rear will make the car feel like it's trying to swap ends on you all the time. |

I have seen a land cruiser with a 4.1 front and a 4.3 rear diff and it was a very bad thing. Very expensive to fix all the damage |

3.7 to 3.9 doesn't seem like much but it's about 5%. That means in 20 turns of the wheels, or 48m of road with 30" tyres, there is a whole turn of difference front to rear. That's a lot of scrub to absorb. Some guys who run primarily low traction surfaces (i.e mud racers) run a taller ratio in the front to make the car track straight. It's an interesting idea, but only a tiny difference would be required, not 5% |

I am aware of this issue. The deli has a 4.636 front and a 4.625 LSD rear. Still hunting a 1.3 rear diff center... I can get a complete one brake to brake but someone else may need that. If I don't find a center soon I will get it but we have sooooo many spare car bits here I dont want to add a diff to the collection... We also now have a soft top coily shell sitting under the house waiting to have it's front clip removed to put on 98zook so if anyone wants to coily shell there will be one here soon....I hope... |
