OK, this is a 2 part discussion,

I know in the past there has been discussion on this and a lot of it negative mostly from people who have no experience in the side draft conversion, eg. Myside2 and others, generally using a Harley carb (of various types) and Mikuni carbs which are basically a motorcycle carb which will work well at angles unlike a weber. I would like to hear from any one who has experience with this conversion and not the detractors who have never used or had experience with it.

Secondly, 4k corolla carbs, same brand as Sierra G13 carb but a lot less complicated and cheap to source, from what In have read on forums it seems to be a reasonably cheap conversion, bolt on in fact, any discussion on this.

1ltr sierras run a factory side draft carb.
It is much better on angles than the 1.3 carbies, i think there was even twin carb manifolds around 100 years ago when they were more common. I recently brought an ebay 1ltr replacement sidedraft carb for under $200 that runs mint, i suppose jets could be upsized to suit a 1.3 they do run a manual choke that needs careful operation so as not to foul the plugs.

Probably not a very common or easy to find carb in Australia but in the UK most people run HIF44 SU carbs on a modified inlet manifold, will run at any angle and they are super easy to tune.

I did the 4K carb back when I had my sierra. Ran well and was pretty much straight bolt on from memory.

Thought there would be a few more replies on this topic,seems I was wrong. Surely there have been conversions to side draft or the 4k Corolla carb. My interest is I had a total rebuild of my Sierra carb, cost $350 by a local "Expert" in a specialist carby workshop", the only difference it cranks over 3 times longer before it starts. I have no interest in having it looked at again so that's the reason I posted the original Topic.

One for Mr ROCKY, with the sidedraft from the 1 litre engine, does the manifold bolt up to the 1.3 sierra ?.

Tried the Firefox and Google plugin fix for pho**bucket, work perfectly.

Nope completely different series motor.
A few cars in wa run the mitsubishi galant 4g33 carb which bolts straight on and runs much better than the sierra carb. About $150 brand new from ebay

There's few replies to the first part of your question because of the second.
There's no readily available sidedraft manifold.

Americans seem to be interested in quad motorbike carbs for some reason that's not clear. I think they like the inlet noise.
Many years ago (late 80's early 90's? dual sidedraft mikunis were fitted to a local Sierra, but this predates EFI, gearing, and I think even widetrack axles. By today's standards it would have been a terrible car to drive.

Jonno_Racing built a sidedraft manifold to run two pit bike carbs on his g16B it definitely works but is not without its problems, least of which is having to make a water neck/thermostat housing fit.

I ran triple mikunis on a LJ50 (30 + years ago) worked pretty good at angles.
Also ran twin S/Us on a 2litre datto 720 for several years. Will do again if I ever get around to changing the cab over on the poor lil beastie ...
