Can anyone confirm these bolt markings? The one on the right looks like a 5.2 possibly. But I'm not sure what the other marking is. A 9 or a b? The weird thing is they are both from the lower cross member under the lower suspension arms. |

Can Anyone take a photo of their SW series GV cross member bolt heads for me? I want to see if others match mine to help identify the type of bolt. These are the bolts, 4 on each side near where the lower control arm is mounted. |

For anyone interested looks like the 9 is an SAE 9 and the other bolt is an SAE 8. These bolts are from a wrecked car.on my car the bolt with a 9 has 4 markings like in this chart. So the outside bolts 3 lines radially plus the fourth line are equivalent to about an 10.9 grade ASTM and the inside bolts sae 9 also 4 lines but more symmetrical are about a 12.9. Wow much higher than I expected. |

After reading this I've spent ages trying to find a conversion chart but not found one. I have found a couple of sites with people stating that the Japanese number rating is 1/10th of its kgf/mm2 tensile strength. If i understand correctly this means a 8t bolt is 80kgf/mm2 which converts to 784MPa and a standard 8.8 bolt is 800MPa. If I'm barking up the right tree this works out as number 9 bolt = 882MPa, 900Pa = 9.8 metric bolt. Number 10 = 980MPa, 1000MPa = 10.9 metric bolt. It does show in my grand vitara manual a bolt with the head markings for number 8 and says 8.8 equivalent so I'd like to think its correct. |

I've left this page from the workshop manual as a PDF so you can zoom in without loosing resolution too much. http://www.mediafire.com/file/xur659odz ... +chart.pdf |
