Landcruiser 70 series utes and troopys use a sealed beam HALOGEN light. Not bad at all and are waterproof. |

but dont forget a loom upgrade would also benefit the cause! Im one to talk thou.. I had 3 of the square sealed beams blow on me..one went as soon as i turned the lights on, the next went going onto highbeam, then another when I kept taking them back each morning they kept asking and telling me i had shit fumbled around.. tried explaining, yeh yeh full of shit they reckon.. but id thought ahead so pulled out the Sierra round light I had as an emergency and low and behold, low beam works high beam works, parkers..lights off, cycle them again...no blow.. get yet another unit off the shelf and install it then and there.. parkers, lights, bang.. blows.. sort thru and find a different stock number.. and its been in there ever since.. just a thought.... |

The stock headlight wiring is marginal at best IMO. Get some cheap sealed beams (eg, stock headlights) and upgrade your wiring. If you still want better than that then go find some lights. I have some aftermarket crystal lense thingys that were given to me. I put some decent Philips globes in them and rewired so that the stock wiring activates individual relays for high and low beam. |

jesse Don't put HID bulbs in reflector that are designed for halogen lights. It's dangerous to you and other road users, and its illeagle. In short stick with halogens. Safer, cheaper, legal |

I'd suspect a bad earth, either at the plplug on the back of the headlight or at the body earth point. |

I did the IPF H4 headlight uprgade and installed 100/90W phillips in each. And put an upgraded loom in. The low beam is great and easy to aim as stock lights etc. High beam is brilliant, I would guess as far as 800m. IPF housings from arb $60 each I think. Phillips globes $12 each (dont buy the globes from arb) I chose the IPF as I really want to avoid having driving lights and/or extra stuff to break etc fitted to my front bar. EDIT: Jan 2012 I discovered both my IPF housings have cracked. No evidence of stone chips, and to lose two so quickly is disturbing. I suspect it is thermal stresses (too hot inside, too cold outside). |
