Okay. We need to have a proper thread dedicated to the different ways people have done sill panel rust repairs/boatsides/reinforcements.

If people could list the metal they used, how much they cut out of the sill, and how they welded etc etc that'd be great.

Cheers all.

Do WE need one or do you need one?

Other than factory replacement repair, any modification to the sill that involves cutting or material replacement now results in the vehicle being a statutory write off, so we’re really talking about something with very limited appeal.

Whilst being illegal, what are the chances really of getting caught for it? Maybe in Vic/NSW where you have roadys you may get noticed, but in any other state no ones going to notice if you keep it clean..

Other than that, the people planning on using it for offroad use ONLY.

I'm in NSW and discussed replacing my sills with 89x89x3mm rhs in my 1988 lwb body and is being engineered so. Unless something has changed since mid last year? From vague memory he stated it was ok as the vehicle date was pre intrusion bar.

Maybe it also depends on the engineer, but I know my guy wouldn't risk a dodgy.

Yeah, I’m aware of your advice bogga, and that’s an awesome outcome for you. The engineer I was dealing with was completely immovable as are RWC providers. It *might* be a Victorian thing but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s buried in VSI 14.

The only mention of sills in VSB14 I can find is examples of how to modify and strengthen them when doing convertible conversions or wheelbase extensions
