Post subject:  Clutch or transmission issue (or both)?

I get a terrible grinding noise when in neutral with my foot off the clutch pedal

It goes away when I push the pedal in

It also doesn't seem to start until I let the pedal out most of the way (I can see the drive shaft spinning before the noise starts)

I'm also not able to get the gearbox into 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th - it will go into 5th and R no problem - same thing if the car is running or not running

I haven't been able to drive it around so I'm not sure if the issue goes away when driving

I'm pretty sure I need a new clutch (I can smell the clutch burning if I let it make the noise for a while) - but do I likely need to rebuild the transmission too?

Here's a video of the issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-Pa1ty4zoE

This suggests the noise is coming from the transmission.

This further indicates that you have transmission issues.

There's no reason for the clutch to be burning in this scenario - the clutch will typically burn only if it is slipping whilst transmitting power.
