Hi Guys,

Has anyone messed around with lowering the low-range ratio in the MY13 GV?

I'm moving from a highly modified pajero io SWB to a SWB MY13GV and the low range final drive is the first place i want to improve.

Does anyone offroad the newer GV's here - only serious builds i've seen so far have been Russian or Greek

Hey Bob - welcome - I think you may find the GV to be a bit of a disappointment - there are a number of severe design limitations that make modifying it challenging, especially when it comes to the suspension.

I'm not aware of anyone having made changes to the transfer case ratios.

My thoughts exactly, however the Io was described in a similar way back in 2008 when I bought mine ;)
Lots of suspension modifications overseas and innovative replacement lower arm mounts to correct the excess pivoting of the rear bush.

Just the way I see it - the iO has a fairly conventional (in other words - tried & proven) suspension design, but, most likely because it was not that popular, there were not a lot of "off the shelf" options available for it - the NGV's front suspension design, which is also fairly conventional is quite common on front wheel drive sedans, and not at all suited to an SUV - I haven't seen anything with a similar rear end, but, it's also not the best for a vehicle intended for use off of the paved road.

Do you have any links to those innovative replacement lower arm mounts? The only thing I've seen is the SuperPro poly bushes which have a somewhat questionable life span.

From what I’ve seen, the bigger problem is slack traction control and difficulty of sourcing lockers. (Although I know one is available for the rear)

If you have to run at everything with momentum there’s little need for a lower low range.

I take my NGV offroad a fair bit, but wouldn't have a 'serious build', just lightly modded.

As far as gearing goes, I have found 1st low to be a bit too tall when wanting to use it for engine breaking on descents (this is an auto). In other words, I can see why you might want to look at it.

I have looked at the FTS site before. I maybe overlooking it, but I don't see the front arm replacement

I haven't felt the TC be too troublesome. Is this the locker you are referring to?

FTS sell quite a few products not listed on the website, re-engineered front and rear arms etc.

Harrop e-locker would be the way to go
