G'day all, first post here.
So im currently in the planning stage of doing a big lap of aus and have almost every detail nailed. Ill be doing alot of the driving in an 05 f250, thats lifted custom canopy, quintrex 395 on the roof ect ect, you get it its a touring rig setup. however the f250 being so massive it would be too big for some of the trails. My plan is to use it more of a base camp as im also going to have a patriot th730 behind it. my plan here is tow the 730 with a jimny on it (yes iv checked it fits both length and width, just) so when i pull up, for 3-4 days at a time i can use the jimny to do some more tighter challenging trails the big 250 just wont do. the issue is that the jimny is just too under powered for my liking and id really rather diesel than petrol in some of the remote areas i intend to visit. So i put the question to you experts would it be in the realm of possibility and still be engineer able and street legal to put the 4n15 (2016 triton turbo diesel) in a jimny? it would be 100% stock as even my daily driver l200 triton is enough for me, so obviously in something 1/3 or less the weight its going to fly, but it should also get good fuel economy and most importantly be a bit more ruggered in the sense i could get it wet in tough water crossings and even tow the quintrex out to remote fishing spots as the roof mount for the quintrex is the mozzie system. Is their a suziki builder in or around brisbane that could do everything for the swap for me? (built trans, flywheel/clutch adaptor plate, built diffs, air locked ect) is their another engine swap i should consider? i just thought the 4n15 would be good as i haven't seen one done before and i do really like my triton so i thought it would be perfect.
Thanks for checking out my post and i hope to get some help doing this!

Why do you think diesel is better then petrol in remote areas?

Why do you think a ECU controlled diesel is better than an ecu controlled coilpack petrol in water?

I’m not sure about the diesel being any better than petrol however I feel that what you’re suggesting is a great deal of work, difficult (if at all possible) to have engineered and registered and I can’t see enough advantage to warrant the effort and cost.
Questions I’d be asking myself are, do I actually need more power to tonk a small 4x4 along the tracks I want to go down? If you’re not towing with it or doing long daily highway miles with it (you’ve got the F’y for that) then more power might not be necessary.
If I were to really want a diesel for the job, could I buy a similar sized diesel 4wd? If it were me I’d try and find a Toyota Blizzard/Daihatsu Scat, just because they’d be great fun! However I’m not convinced that a diesel really has a great advantage for what you’re proposing to do, especially (as Steve points out) electronically controlled diesel motors.
Just my thoughts. Hope you find a good solution, sounds like an epic trip!

Lots of info on diesel conversions on here.
IMO with what you're proposing, with a jimny, I'd get a manual, fit 215/75 KL71's and a rear airlocker, and call it done. Spend the rest on servicing/maintenance to get it back to brand new, and still have change to pay for all that petrol =)

I owned a 435 hornet in Broome and towed it everywhere I wanted in my 2005 Jimny, embrace the fact that it is underpowered. That is one of its assets

Life starts at 3000rpm =)
I once watched a guy with a 1.3L sierra sit on what can only be described as "off the tacho" for an entire day trying to kill his engine to justify a 1.6 upgrade. This includes the return trip home in 2nd gear the whole way on the highway. The POS ran better after that, and he drove it like that for another 2-3 years before selling it.
