Hi from the UK!

We struggle over here ya get the m18a engine that is very popular over there!

I am putting a M16a engine into my Jimny (non vvt)
But wanting to make it 1.8 spec or close to.

My understanding is the bore size is the same and it’s down to crank size and injecrors?

Not sure if you guys could help please as I have very little understanding of the 1.8 engine

Install the common where you are 1.6 and call it a day. There are plenty of good 1.6 options out there.

I actually think the 1.8 has a different bore not stroke. Not worth the mess around for 0.2L if it’s not common where you are.’

I'd even consider the more common m15 engine personally.. Does about 74kw vs. a g16's 71kw so quite comparable and far newer. m16 might be doing around 88kw, but you're also dealing with a driveline made for the 1.3's 50kw output.

A stock sierra with a g16 is VERY (scary) fast. Adding larger tyres reduces that and the braking capabilities exponentially, but comes close to acceptable daily drivability. A jimny wouldn't be too different.
