Okay without shocks it does not travel any better, i have a coily, sigh, and it is tough as nails, unsigh, but even though my arms are now unbreakable my front end is stiff as all hell, it just doesn't move it all. Royce once said something about drilling the poly bushes out so ? i have been offered an x-link setup kinda of thing ? i have the factory bushes i would like to put back in to see if that makes a difference ? what the shit else could i do that keeps my sexy onroad handling? but honestly it is pretty much static, it only flexes down hill with all the weight on the car, i had it on the hoist at my mates and unbolted one shock and even with our whole weight on the wheel it only moved like an inch or two further down oh and i am poor and willing to defeat all the shitness of a coily so others can win in the future |

get some softer bushes but anything to give more flex will probably make it handle worse |

remove the chassis and fit a pre 95 leafy job... lol ha ha ha Seriously though... Longer travel=longer arms, shocks and springs |

do you still have sway bars in, what are the brake lines like when flexing? |

pull out the front bolt on the radius arm on the driver side diff mount. Flex it up and see what happens. I"m guessing you will get maybe a couple of inches extra out of it. coily's just aren't designed for flex. arms are too short. I'd be looking at lockers if you want to improve offroad ability. Any radius arm setup will bind up on flex but it will keep it happy on the road. Maybe think about extending your radius arms and moving your chassis end mounts towards the centre of the vehicle. I"d hate to say it but if you have the $$ buy a wrecked Wrangler and install the running gear into your coily. PLenty strong enough for a light sierra and 5 link front end will flex pretty well. |

ive lost my sway bar and brake lines are fine, i'm way past that point.. i think my best bet will be try get my factory bushes back in, it's really the only issue i have with my car there is nothing really left specifically coily related to go wrong. It's not so much an amount of travel issue it's a how easy it is to get it to travel, i suppose the roll stiffness or whatever you call it. the poly bushes are good in the rear, makes it a bit more stable uphills, just need to coax those stupid control arm bolts out now |

Will be interesting to compare with the Jimnys on Saturday. Seems strange. I have found that the Jimny flexes quite well although the front is hindered by urethane caster bushes. I think that coils should easily outperform leaves in stock form and both have their own limitations as they're modified. Will be interesting to have a good look at it. |

I have 80 series upper arms used as lowers, and GQ upper arms used as uppers on my linked sierra, and the range of movement is insane. Its just the radius arms with poly bushes binding up..... As you said its crap design |

What about replacing the bushes with hiem joints? Won't be very nice on road though. Could your spring rate be too heavy? What springs are you running? |

| Post subject: | Re: front suspension is crap, help |
springs are heavy but that would not effect down travel so much, those heim joints are way to expensive and also i don't think they work so great in this arm setup. I have honda crv 50mm lifted rears all around lol, did not think about jimny springs at the time because i originally had a longer coil over strut in the front/ |

I reckon those springs would be way to stiff as well, a CRV weighs around 1600kg and a soft top sierra is under 1000kg, you don't have the weight to flex them. Get six 100kg front rowers in the coily and it might start to flex those springs. |

they don't seem to be that stiff compress good in the rear.. and the front is heavier

My coily has rock friggin hard suspension in it also. Apparently it has King springs in it. I think they are probably an inch or so longer than standard, and hard enough to support 3 tonne! Anyone managed to acquire a set of soft coil springs, that they are happy to recommend? |

thanks mate! what are you drivin ive probly seen it? also paul i am surprised your kings are so heavy duty the ones i used to have where hopeless it used to bottom out on my all the time. The springs i have in mine provide a good ride. I think that the coily "Mike" has is running jimny springs... |
