Just bought myself my first jimny and was wondering what people found were the most beneficial mods for 4x4'ing. Jimny is completely stock

Compressor, diff breathers, air locker(s)

Beyond that you’re trading off reduced performance one area to improve performance in another, and you’ll have to unpack what that means for your use, which you haven’t specified.

Decent tyres would be a good 1st step, but as Steve says, chunkier off-road tyres, make for poorer on-road performance, but most people accept that & get used to it.
215/75R15 is as good as it gets on stock rims.
235/75R15 if you change rims & don't mind trimming bits.

Best modification you can make is to your driving style.

Drive it stock for 6-12 months and learn what it can and can't do in-depth, and how far it'll actually go unmodified. Then, as you identify weaknesses, perform upgrades.

That said, what Steve suggested with compressor & diff breathers makes sense from the get go =) I'd add to that a full-on service, checking/replacing fluids, tighten wheel bearings etc etc so you know it will be reliable.

Oh, and if it's an auto, a transmission temperature gauge.

Building on what Alien has said, Join a club or work out how to connect with other suzuki drivers in your area. Suzukis don't drive like big cars, you need to learn to get the best of out it from other suzuki drivers. In our club, we frequently see people who think they need a modified car to drive off road, and make poor decisions about the modifications they need.

When people ask the question on FB and I reply with "what do you want the car to do worse so it does some other thing better" I get crickets or abuse hurled at me, but it's worth keeping that in mind.

* edit - I mean they make poor decisions before they've joined the club. Once they start coming on trips with us why be build cars the way we do makes sense, and people realise a lot of the parts they bought are just "accessories" and aren't making the car better at anything.
