Ok, with all this talk of vsi50 in NSW and it being illegal to have a car lifted or lowered more than 50mm, I decided I'm going to get my car engineered to save any legal headaches down the track. There are a couple of things I have to take car of first to have it comply, and one of them is the tyres rub on the springs every so slighlty on full lock. They're 31" in 15x8 wheels with a -24 offset. The car has a 2" bodylift + 2" springlift and I've moved the front diff forward 20mm. Now I thought this would be an easy fix as I'd just adsust the steering stoppers, but the last time I was under my car (a while ago now) I could'nt see any. Is this correct? If so, I was thinking of figuring out a way to make a couple of adjustable stoppers and weld them onto my front diff, but I was just wondering what some of you guys have done? If I changed my 13x8 rims to the more commonly used 13x7 rim would I still have this problem??

Something doesn't make sense. 31x10.5 on 15x8 -25 rims should not rub on the springs. It shouldn't even be close. Even 0 offset 15x8 rims with the same tyres should still clear.

yeah im thinking the same as damo??? Mine hit on the bolts that hold the felt back on the swivel hub. I would try and find a longer bolt then space it out to get the right lenght...

Ok. To add further to it, I read Damo's post this morniging and decided to get some photo's. Now I could have sworn it was both sides, but at the moment it just seems to be the passenger side. On full lock to the left it , the left tyre rubs on the bracket on the spring. I've checked the drivers side too, and there is evidence that it has rubbed, but nowhere as much as the passenger side.

Whilst I was down there I decided to put a rattle gun on the ubolts and the drivers side torqued up ever so slightly, but they're still nice and tight, and I checked for play in the kingpins and wheelbearings and they seem fine.

They certainly look like 31s and the same offset as my rims. I have 32x10.5 Mongrels and no rubbing.

mine is the same f100 15 x 8 with 31s and the rear off the passenger
side tyre touches the spring clamp.

I've never had a problem with mine rubbing on the springs, just the rear of the guard. How did you move your diff forward Rockhopper?

maybe it is something to do with moving the diff, mine is about 35mm forward.

My front diff is 20mm forward, so I don't think that could be the cause of the problem.

i have made up from the scrap bin spring packs and it just ended up
right. i really don't know how :oops:

when i first did the springs the steering rubbed a little but now i have enough slack in the tie rods that it is no problem.

this is with a 32" tyre on the bumpstop. the tyre sits in the guard well, i recon so anyway.

From memory I made up a template out of scrap steel with a hole in it so I could bolt it to the spring perch and the mounting plate. On that peice of scrap I drilled a pilot hole about 17mm away from the orignal hole, then I drilled pilot holes into the perch and spring mounts using the template so when everything was bolted up it would line up exactly right on both sides.
I did'nt move it any further forward than that. because I did'nt want to have any problems with the steering linkages fouling each other

this is the reason I moved it forward in the first place
