A few years ago I swapped a Mk3 GTI motor into my 95 sierra which has been my occasional drive and weekend toy with no issues until the other night I was casually driving home from work and it decided to stop dead. If I try start it it turns over as normal but just does not fire.
I have swapped the computer, checked fuel pump, swapped maf over, new ignition control module. I have not touched it since (two weeks) as I lost interest but now am trying to get it going again. The codes I am getting is (14)coolant temp sensor,(21) tps, (33)maf, and (41)ignition signal which has since disappeared.
Anyone had anything similar happen to them?

The 41 ignition feedback failure ia a "non-latching" code, it clears when the power to the ECU is removed by switching off the ignition, crank the car over and check for codes without switching the ignition off and you'll probably see it again - what it is telling you is that the ECU is not seeing an ignition event, it could be a bad noise filter, an actual ignition system failure.

Apart from reading codes & swapping parts, what real troubleshooting have you done? An engine requires air, fuel & spark to run, which have you checked? And no, swapping the fuel pump does not mean that fuel is reaching the cylinders, just as replacing the ignition control module does not mean you have spark.

Crank the engine over, spray starting fluid into the intake, will it fire & run? Pull a plug, reconnect the lead, ground the shell against the head and crank the engine do you get a spark?

Thanks for that fordem, I should have mentioned I checked the basics . First thing I did was spray start fluid into the intake and it did not fire, then a lead off to check for spark, it had spark. Then I went into swapping a few things over. it has stumped me so far but I have not spent enough time on it yet.

Interesting - if you have spark and it will not fire on starting fluid, you more likely than not have some sort of a timing related issue - ie - no spark in the cylinder that is on compression stroke, or, perhaps no starting fluid in said cylinder. Remove the oil filler cap, I think you should be able to see the intake camshaft through it, have someone else crank the engine over and see if the camshaft turns. The distributor is on the end of the exhaust cam so that would have to be turning for you to get spark.

A broken timing belt was my first thought, but, if he has spark it means the distributor is turning.

timing belt is intact and yes getting spark. I have not checked the timing as of yet. The way it stopped originally was just like I hit a kill switch.(it doesn't have one) It did not splutter to a halt just stopped.

Found the issue, pulled it down to check the timing and the belt and found two things.The timing was out by five teeth and a squashed tensioner spring. By the look of the spring it went thru the belt quite a few times. Appreciate the relpy guys it gave me inspiration to find the issue. The lesson im taking away from this is "pull the bloody tensioner spring out after you set the timing" ha ha
