I’ve got a 1997swb Vitara with a cactus engine. I can get a G16b with reasonably low kms from a 1993 vitara estate and was wondering if there are any engine wiring differences I will need to address, and or any other issues. Cheers Shane. |

Are they both running the same engine? In my neck of the woods a 2 door would have had the 8v engine with a carb, and the four door would have most likely had a 16v with port injection. If swapping electronics you may also need to address transmission differences, and last but not least, in some locales you cannot legally swap an older engine into a newer vehicle. |

Both cars have a G16b MPFI 16v SOHC engine. The 1993 car will have the early moving cone style AFM and the late car will have the compact AFM. I believe there were other wiring and component differences. The ECU’s aren’t interchangeable. You’ll need to swap the whole engine loom and ecu with the motor, or strip the manifolds off and just swap the long blocks over. |

I have found a few other differences along the way, the injector harness is different, Dizzy harness and O2 sensor are different. Agree with Steve, swap manifolds and use the long block/head. |

Thanks for the replies Steve and Rex. I’ve got the ECU and loom from the Estate but yeah swapping the manifolds seems like the easiest option. I’ve fixed/swapped most other components in cars before but this will be my first engine swap. |

I suppose I will have to swap dizzy over as well as they are different. Having never done this before Is it just a mater of swapping them over? Probably should have put this in noob talk haha |

Just remember to set the motor at tdc before pulling each dizzy out and setting back in, gives you half a chance of having it back at the correct position. |
