Hi. Ready to reinstall the diffs. Having trouble sourcing the diff gaskets. I assume you cant use a sealant as the gasket thickness affects the alignment. Am i correct in thinking this. Also who stocks the SJ410 diff gaskets?

The diffs don't use gaskets from the factory, just RTV sealant

They were factory installed with RTV, there are no gaskets for that application. In fact there are relatively few gaskets on a suzuki at all.

Minor variations in sealant thickness when reinstalling the diff will have no effect on anything- especially in the front where the axle is fully floating. In the rear moving the diff in and out of the housing more or less would cause tiny changes in toe at the wheels, but probably less than the tolerance the axlehousing was manufactured to.

Hi. Mine definitely had a paper gasket installed. If you go to megazip and look at the parts diagram for the SJ410 type 1 (the last one in the list) there is a paper gasket shown.

Interesting. I’ve never encountered a paper gasket- maybe it was an early 1.0 thing. They certainly didn’t use gaskets by about 1984.

Don’t bother with gaskets. Just RTV.

FSM item 12 is a diff gasket. But yeah I’ve looked for them and couldn’t find any, RTV is the go Image

LJ50, LJ80, SJ40 and Carry ALL used paper diff gaskets.

It wasn't until the 1.3 Sierra that RTV came into use.

Alan, the diff gaskets won't be available through Suzuki Dealerships as the older vehicles will not be supported. However, Genuine gaskets are still available through sources like Megazip, SSG Asia, etc. Plentiful, cheap. Quicker, easier, cleaner than RTV.

Would suck getting a paper gasket on

Why? They're so much quicker, easier and cleaner than RTV. Don't forget the LJ and SJ40 diff housings have studs to hang a gasket on, not bolts.

Ahhh yeah that would be easy
Id imagine longevity would be less than rtv ?

I have a couple of 1974/1975 LJ50 chassis/wrecks/parts with no reason to believe that the diff gaskets have ever been changed, don't leak.
