Hey guys, I have a chance to pick up a JX vitara donor car pretty cheap, currently doing the 1.6 conversion in my sierra atm, just wondering what could I use from the vitara? I know I could use the brakes for rear disc conversion, the power steering and such but what else? Would doing whole axle swaps be worth it? The cluster? Hell even the whole drive line swap over? Just looking for some advice. Tia. |

JX vitara's don't have power steering unless they're 4 door |

Its a 4 door JX, 92 year model. So front brakes, anything else I should get off it? Are the rear brakes worth getting as well? |

You could swap the gearbox with the engine, this is very desirable if it's an auto, less so if it's manual but there are still advantages - the vitara manual is bigger and has a much bigger flywheel and clutch so is better suited to the torque of the 1.6. Swapping the manual will require a shortened jackshaft, gearbox mount modifications and the tunnel will need to be opened up. It's not feasible or desirable to retain the Vitara transfer case. Rear brakes are not compatible with the sierra axlehousing. To use the Vitara rear axle it would need to be cut down to retain sierra axles. I have used the cluster, steering column, and complete vitara wiring loom in my car, but I was starting with an early 1.0 litre so I had a steel dash (easier to modify) and a ratty wiring loom, I was also using an automatic donor so the wiring is more complex. You could use the vitara front diff gears (you'd need to source another vitara front set to swap front and rear into your sierra) but they're 5.12 rather than 3.7/3.9 depending on your model of sierra so thats a big step and will result in high road revs. |
