I have been thinking about swapping back to 235/75/15s on my Jimny but if so would like to drop my gearing to compensate.

Transfer case gears seem like such a chore and hard to swap back in a couple of years when I upgrade to my wife's Jimny stocker.

I've heard of various suzuki model pinion gears being interchangeable and that autos have lower ratios.

Can anybody cast some light on which goes with what. I would also appreciate any info regarding ratios as well.

Also I've been told in the past that you can just swap heads between the M13A and M15A giving you a 1500cc and that the EFI computer will compensate accordingly for the larger capacity. Is this true?

Cheers

If only things were that easy. In regards to the head swap you are not changing the cylinders 'swept volume' thus capacity will stay the same. You may raise the comp ratio or lower it which is determined by the change in combustion chamber volume between the heads.

Yeah thought that sounded too good to be true. Have been doing some google research which also confirmed what you have said. In this case, is it a straight swap from M13A to either M15A or M18A entire motor and if so what are the negatives of such a swap?

It's funny. WHile researching on Google I came across some output specs for M13A which were surprising. It stated that the NON VVT version puts out more KW at lower revs than the VVT equipped M13A.

The M15A and M18A of course have higher power outputs but at much higher revs than the M13As. Higher revs and also higher compression ratios probably not so good for off-road..?

Probably be fun though!!

I wonder how well a V6 Vitara motor would work in a Jimny. Definitely would be a little scary.
