Post subject:  Help with choosing tyres for 2020 jimny

Good afternoon all,

Can someone please help me out with a bit of information if they know?

I am picking up a Jimny (2020 GJ JB74W in manual) in a few weeks and am looking to swap tyres.

Has anyone tried 225/75/15
Thank you,

Not a lot of options in a 225 and I can't remember hearing of anyone running them yet. Heaps of options in 215 or 235, 215 will fit the standed 5.5 inch rim 235 "should" be fitted to a 6 or a 7 inch rim but have seen plenty on 235's on the standed rim size.

Why not go to 16s? 225 75 16 will the gv wheels fit?

Because then you're stuck with high load ratings, which is the last thing a Jimny needs.

235's seem to fit the new jimny, but I'd want to have that clarified (unless you're willing to space bumpstops/trim guards etc)

also consider they will have a significant effect on gearing as they're quite a bit bigger diameter than standard.

Thank you very much.

I have seen some 225/70 15's that look okay.

Does anyone know if that size will fit without any rubbing Lock/Lock?

In terms of diameter etc, I think they should be okay as I ran the stock size and the 225 70 15 are 3mm higher through the tire calculator.

If someone knows if 225s width may cause issues with rubbing at full lock or as turning to full lock that would be great.

Thank you,

235/75 scrub on the front wheelarch trim plastic, easy to cutoff. Dont hear much about offroad, it seems every one wants to claim their tyres dont scrub like its some kind of great feat.

Doesnt seem to be a magic offset that rubs less, at least there arent people able to share info on it all in a sensible manner to get an idea of what works.

215/75 is popular, common, usually easy to get on sale and available in lots of brands. It also fits the stock rims and doesnt scrub.
225/75 or 225/70 may need a wider rim? they are going to be harder to get if you need to replace one, probably dont have the variety and wont really offer much advantage over a 215/75

the 215/75 fitting with no scrub is an improvement... On the '99+ Jimny they'd rip the trims off on the back hahaha (My uncle's did this many times).
