Hi Guys,
My 1996 G16B vitara stopped running today and I cant work out why. I drove roughly 200m with the car running rough and I pulled over to take a look. When I went to rev the engine, it would lose power and almost die for a split second before revving as it should. I bumped the MAF sensor and the car died.
On closer inspection the wiring had previously been split and was only twisted together and taped. Now when going to start the car, it turns over and over but doesnt start.
If I leave the key to the start position, I can hear a click every second or so for 5 to 6 seconds and then it stops. After the clicking stops and I go to start the engine, I can hear a slight buzzing from behind the dash that was never there before.
I changed the air box but not the MAF sensor during the week however I had driven the car after that and it drove fine. The MAF sensor was slightly dirty but it didnt look too bad.

There are no engine lights, I have tried unplugging the battery for 10 mins to see if that would reset the ECU as I saw that has helped some people.

Any ideas as to why it isnt starting at all would be great.

Cheers, Liam

When you switch the ignition on, you should get at the very least, the oil pressure, charge indicator and check engine lights - if you're not, then that's where you start, determining why you have no ignition power.

A good place might be the ignition switch - do you have 12V into the switch? out of the switch to the ignition circuit(s)? You can follow that with the fuses.

It sounds like their could be a problem with the carby. My Drover was having a similar problem and the needle valve in the carby was sticking.
