hey guys just put new engine in my 96 swb g16b vitara and its been good for couple weeks now, but today it didn't like going into reverse, it has new clutch and clutch cable, forward gears go in fine but reverse i need to have my foot on the clutch for like 5 seconds and then put it into reverse otherwise it grinds... have adjusted the clutch so it has 1mm of play between thrust bearing to pressure plate, and forward gears have syncros so don't grind... tightened my clutch cable at it gets better but if i clutch quick and go reverse it still chings into gear! Is this normal and should i just wait a few seconds between pressing the clutch and going into reverse or am i missing/doing wrong? Thank in advance! You guys rock! |

I think that indicates that the clutch isn’t completely disengaging so the gears aren’t completely stopping. I can’t recall the adjustments for the clutch cable but perhaps it’s stretched somewhat? I had a few similar issues and couldn’t get the adjustments right, put a new cable on and it was good. Try popping into a forward gear then shifting quickly to reverse. See if that stops the grinding |
