Ive been given a bare gti engine with no wiring/manifolds ect... Just curious if i can pop a sierra head on there as my lwb engine has done 315,000kms now and i figure it might pay to have a backup ready. I know the gti has 4 valve notches out of the pistons to account for the 16v head. My question is will the 8v sierra head valves line up on the gti piston crown ok ? If they dont has anyone used a die grinder or the like to take some meat out of the gti piston to make it work ? Cheers |

What about a BB jimny head? They're already 16v and you can buy them brand new (ask me how I know lol) |

BB head is same as baleno Perhaps if i could find a dead jimny bb motor Pretty happy with the 4k carb setup wasnt really planning on going injection |

I'd say sell the GTi long block to a ricer and use the funds to buy a G16 or something that will work. It sounds like the end result will be an interference motor with unknown compression ratio. alternatively, put carbs on the GTi. |

Might just rebuild it with some new pistons and see if i can work around the different gudgeon pin setup to sierras |

Rather than mess around with the pins, you should be able to swap the rods. When I did the 8v engine in my Swift, I swapped the crank out for a GTI crank, just because it was available and forged. |

Will the bike carbs work on a mk2 motor without ecu ect... Dizzy should take care of the spark on its own ??? |

MrRocky wrote: Dizzy should take care of the spark on its own ??? If I recall correctly, no, it's not a self contained ignition system, timing advance is handled by the ECU - the distributor just handles the cam sensor and distributes the spark. |
