So the alternator on my '93 Sierra has two large gauge cables coming off the rear +ve terminal - one runs straight to battery +ve and the other hooks into a white/yellow cable and disappears into the loom via a red single pin, high capacity plug. Somewhere along the line they've separated and the end that's swaged onto the alternator side has been munched.

Any idea what type of plug it is so I can source a replacement? Not much free cable on the other end (loom side) so prefer not to swap both plugs if I don't have to - replacing the alternator side like-for-like would be ideal.

The plug has markings 'VO' and '3' on the end.

It looks like what I know as an "anderson powerpole", but there are other names, and I'm fairly certain anderson is not what it's known as in Australia - google it - the larger sizes come in paired housings, the smaller sizes have grooves in the housing that let you snap them together to form a block

Take a look here - you may be able to get the housing separately rather than have to crimp a new one

Awesome, thanks guys. It is indeed an Anderson Powerpole PP15-45 p/n 1327.

Looks like they just snap into the housing (there's a bit of spring loaded steel not shown that came out of the assembly too) and are genderless, so I've ordered a minimum quantity of 10 from rs-online for the princely sum of $8.13 delivered. The pic they show looks like it's the big brother p/n 1827 with square-finished side slots rather than the circular ended slots on mine, but if they do send the wrong ones I should be able to snap swap both connectors out anyway.

It took me a few moments to figure out what you mean by "circular ended slots", I don't recall seeing that before, but it shouldn't make a difference since you're not assembling them into a block. Going from memory, the smaller sizes use a common housing with different size contacts depending on the current capacity, but it's gotta be 20 years or so since I worked with the little ones.

So I should have checked out the datasheets - the PP15-45 are teensy things. The ones that match are these.

$8.09 a pair with overnight delivery from RS-Online. I seriously don't know how they can send out such small orders via Toll Priority (1kg satchel) and not make a loss.

I work quite a bit in ecommerce logisitcs and the volume pricing deals that rsonline would have with couriers would explain part of it but also there are some retailers (similar to rsonline) who are willing to take a loss (of some sort) in these situations to maintain popularity and position in the market, Digikey has similar quirks with their business model and sales tactics. Also plenty of others in different positions where they make a large profit on shipping costs due to industry norms.
