| Post subject: | Vitara transfer Inputs? |
Any one got a Vitara transfer case that is no longer attached to a gear box that i can get some pics of? basically i need to know what the inputs and outputs are like, i splines etc? |

I have heard others discuss the possibility but thought it might be worth a look, to use a vitara transfer between the gear box and transfer of a sierra, running short jack shafts. well in this case a LJ but the theory is the same. there for not changing high range but having twin transfers in for low range. |

If it was a sierra i'd be inclined just to use the vit transmission. Could probably be done on the LJ too? |

early vits are same as sierra 5 speed outputs. if you want to use it for a dual case setup its HEAPS easier to use with a vit box, and vit boxes are bullet proof. |

Not sure i got my point accross right, 
I'll try again, I want to divorce the transfer off of the gear box, remove the chain drive outputs on the transfer so it becomes a simple one input and 1 output reduction box, and slip it in where the longish jackshaft would be in a sierra setup. im not sure what the internal inputs and outputs of the vitara case are like. |

Yeah i get that the vit box is stronger, however it will be comming from a jimny auto cos thats what i have

mounting it betwwen the sierra case and t/case will be very difficult and long, will be easier with a vitara gearbox. and yes, you can adapt a vit box to a 1.3. http://www.auszookers.com/index.php?nam ... pic&t=3452 |

It wont be overly long in the end, as the jimny auto is hugely short, Its going into an LJ tunnel so there isnt a hope that i will be able to stretch the tunnel enough to get a vit box in there. Its not going to be the strongest most ideal setup, granted. I was just sorta hoping for the tech of this is the input, this is the output. We are pretty handy in the how of getting things to work. |

Hi Tanshi, I have a Vit 4 speed auto in my LJ and I plan to put twin transfers in as well. |

do you have any floor pan left at all?!?! I already have the Jimny Auto, i will probably just run a jackshaft to a sierra transfer with gears. I thought that if it was doable it would be it cheap enough to do as picking up vitara transfers is easy as. |

You only need 50mm each side at the floor and a cut out for the linkage wich you put a foot rest over, easy .

by 'just' removing the chain drive system will not make it any shorter, and by the time you have couplers in there it will be a long system. |

Ok cool, In the interest of research though what are the couplings like at either end of the vitara case? Im assuming that the rear would be something similar to what has been posted by Joe in the link up further, but whats the front one like? |

These came from IZook andf Zukiworld, I have a couple of T-cases and have been doing some looking around.

For the size of the damn things, I'd be looking at (excuse the bad language) a Hilux reduction box. They can be easily divorced; get a top shift case, and the shifter comes right out the top. Standard gives about 2.28:1 ratio Low, and for crazy people you can get 4.7 trail creeper gears. Always 1:1 in high range like the Vit. Not saying it would work out cheap, though I think it would be easier and more compact than a Vitara in the type of config that Tanshi is talking about... This is not the adaptors etc you would want, but it gives some info on the Hilux reduction section, and some of the aftermarket gear available for them: http://www.marlincrawler.com/transfer-c ... rawl-boxes I cannot find it now, but I swear somebody made a divorce transfer kit for the Hilux transfer case...? |

yep, but its the wrong type 
You would want a pre '97 gear drive transfer. Dad's spare is a stupid electric shift chain drive case. Could possibly play with it, but there is nothing aftermarket avialable for them The high low part is still lever shift, but its forward shift not top shift.
Dont worry, gear drive hilux transfers a a dime a dozen, and avilable almost anywhere

I was just considering this for the future, making sure i had enough space in there to replace the jack shaft with a case. as i said above i may just get some gears instead. |

you can mount any place you like as long as you make the mounts to suit. |
