Easy fix. Shift bush.

Get a new one and replace it, it's the nylon ring that the transfer case shifter seats in. They get flogged out.

Don't even need to remover the TF case to do it (although it's tight to leave it in)

Sounds like your selector bushings have become mush.

I had same problem once in my sj70 not sure if the TC are similar. but i was able to insitu, go in from the top and remove the selector and install new bushes and put back togeter and it was good to go.

Edit: yes see above :)

eBay ones below. Bear in mind these are very tricky to instal s they are very tough!! They do work however. I'm not sure about other suppliers.

Also here is an illustrated description of how to reset and install the bush - sometimes referred to a a "shifter Sheet":

http://bbs.zuwharrie.com/content/topic,1425.0.html

http://www.Zuksoffroad.com sells an indestructable brass unit for the WT Sierra (Samurai) around $15.00 (US) + shippping...

I hope that this helps

If ya desperate, you can just pull the stick out, fool around with the selectors until ya get neutral, put the stick back in without the bush, and select gears mindfully.

bye

This^

I had an early non-swtich case 1l which you can't buy a shifter sheet for anymore. It got stuck in neutral and after that I always pulled the lever up when I shifted and it never got stuck again. Certainly buy a sheet and install one, just saying it's not the end of the world until you get one.

Hi guys, having the same issue. Have new bushes but how do I get the top bush on, does the stick come apart/unscrew? If so mines locked together tight. Any tips?
