im interested in trying to make a 5 speed gearbox to suit my f10a, i know it includes a 1.3 litre and a 1 litre box but specifically which engines gearbox corresponds to each one, like which engine do i need to look for to find the appropriate 1.3 litre or the 1 litre as i know the 1 litre it has to a a specific version of it. Also knowing which cars and years they come off would be very helpful. TIA

If i was to have a 1 litre box of unknown origin is there any possible way to identify its the big box without opening it up?

And which vehicles come with the 1 litre big box specifically, like the sj40t?

The type three gearbox is unmistakably bigger, it looks like a 1.3 box. There is no need to open it up to confirm this. You need a complete 1.3 box to build the 5 speed f10 gearbox, so you will end up with two gearboxes which look broadly the same.

No, I can’t provide a comprehensive guide of exactly where you will find one other than to say a “type three” 1.0. These cars are typically later models (1984?) and have a plastic dashboard. In various other ways they are similar to the 1.3 cars, I believe these were built alongside the 1.3. The type three has a wider transmission tunnel to fit the larger gearbox.
