| Post subject: | Clearing MAF Fault Code on a 96 SWB EFI Vitara? |
(Hope this is the right spot to post as its been years seen I've posted on here) Guys... While trying to fault find on my son’s 96 EFI SWB Vitara I disconnected the MAF sensor while the engine was running ( wasn’t clearly thinking at the time). Anyhow a little while later I saw the engine check light on the dash. I assumed it was from when I disconnected the MAF sensor. I carried out the diagnostic check and found the fault code was 34 which refers to the MAF. Following the manual, it mentions clearing the fault code u remove the tail-light fuse for 20secs but it doesn’t mention doing this while the engine is running or while u still have the wire bridging out Terminals A and B. I have done various combinations w/o success of clearing the code. I’ve cleaned the MAF with the proper cleaner as well and still cannot clear the fault code… I left the battery disconnected for a few weeks while I was away on holidays, and this did not clear the code. I measured the resistance between the 2 outer term'ls on the 3-wire MAF and it was an open circuit. I then measured the resistance between the centre Term'l and the 2 outer term'ls and both came back as an open circuit. I measured the resistance across the resistor inside and it came back reading 4ohms or close to. Looking for ideas or options of what I can do and if possible, find a second-hand MAF (3-wire) sensor. BTW: Came across this on eBay: Mass Air Flow Meter MAF Sensor 1380065D00 Fit for Suzuki Vitara Cabrio ET TA X90 Could this be used as a suitable replacement? Thanks in advance |

Does anyone have an idea on how to properly clear fault codes on a 96 EFI Vitara (1.6ltr)? |

In regards to the 3 Terminal MAF, has anyone measured the resistance between the 2 Outer Terminals and then between the Centre Terminal and the 2 outer Terminals? When I measured mine I got the following readings: Between the 2 outer Terminals - 2.9Megaohms Between Centre & the 2 outer Terminals - 4.8Megaohms Do anyone know what the actual readings should be? thanks in advance... rob |

What you need to recognize is that if the fault has not been corrected, it will be re-detected as soon as the detection criteria is met, which, with many of the engine sensors, can happen as soon as the ignition is switched on. |
