Post subject:  Suzuki Vitara 2017 - CV Joint

Hi all,

Long time reader first time poster. Hehehe.

Just asking the Suz community about this. I've got a 2017 Vitara 2WD - 66,000 klms, always kept well serviced & has been mostly driven country klms.

On the weekend, I was slowing for a left-hand corner (doing about 10kph) when the dash lit-up like a Xmas tree, the ESP warning lights went nuts & then the left CV joint fell out & jammed my wheel against the wheel arch. Just - fell out! :? Never seen anything like it. Both me & my mechanic are gob smacked that the CV just decided to nip off & have lunch.... I spoke to Suzuki customer service & they say there are no recall or faults record against the particular model.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue? And if it's a NEW CV job, should I do both?

Thanks all,
Tony.

I would think it highly unlikely for the inner CV joint (either side) to fail as shown in that picture WITHOUT the suspension failing FIRST - ie. the knuckle moved outwards allowing the shaft to pull apart, rather than the joint failing and pushing the wheel outwards.
