Guys,
I've got 2x SE416 93' model 5dr EFI Vitara's (G16B) and I'm having issues with the Tachometers in both. In one the Tacho doesn't work and in the other one the Tacho is not reading correctly.

I'm after some info on how these Tachos work (where do they get the signal from) and what things should I look at as possible causes & fixes?

thanks in advance

They get a feed from the ignition coil negative terminal via a noise suppressor.

I've attached a snip from the wiring diagram, the brown wire (labelled br) is the feed, I'd say there's a high probability the actual tach is the problem, I've been told there are electrolytic capacitors in there that can dry out as they age.

Thanks for that.... so if that is the case, then its either another instrument Dash or wire in a separate Tacho?

I wonder if u can open it all up and try resoldering those dry joints?

Also... does anyone know where I can get the electronic version of the Electrical Diagrams & Service Manual for the SE416 Vitaras?

They are not "dry joints", they are "dried out" capacitors, and yes, they can be replaced, have a look at the first link below

You can download the manuals from ...
