Hi I own a new Jimny XL 3000kms old. Every now and then it sounds like someone is tapping on the roof, it's very loud and annoying. I assume it something to do with metal expansion. Sometimes it's goes on for minutes. Does it even when car is parked and not running . Its right above the drivers head area. The car is going back to Suzuki soon but have no doubt it won't do it then. . I have a video of it for them. Just wondering if anyone has heard of such a thing occuring before.thanks

I've done around 7000km in mine, no sound, that's definitely something wrong.

Hi Compdad,

I have the same issue in South Africa. Glad I am not the only one. Can't find any blogs here with this issue.
The clicking happens every time I become stationary after driving in the sun. I think there is a reinforcing rib with the roof structure is not welded securely.
It is due into the dealer in a few weeks while we are away. They say they have never heard of this issue.
Our Jimny is only 4 months old and done 6000+km.
Do you know how it was fixed.

A test drove one today and that is 100% thermal expansion.
Unless you are willing to remove the entire roof to soundproof if, there is no fix.

This is not a Jimny issue, I have had similar experience with car/van I have rented in the past.
It was parked in the share, as soon as I drove into the sun with with, the "tapping" started for like a minute or so and stopped once the metal got hot enough.
