Hi all, I need to replace my rear diff center and I have a box of random SJ70 diff parts, a mix of front and rear centers/gears/crownwheels etc from SJ70's... I might have enough bits to make a complete rear diff center out of the parts I have. However, I have only one main housing, and I don't remember where it came from. lol. ... I have 2 questions: 1 - are the main housings identical between front and rear on the SJ70? 2 - I seem to have only one pinion gear here, which is installed in the one main housing I have. Is this pinion gear the same across 3.7 and 3.9 ratio diffs? I can't remember where this housing came from, so it could be either I guess. (FYI - I know about the different 2 and 4 pin internals, that's all good, I have a 4 pin one here I would use, and I believe I have the correct 26 spline side gears for the rear too...) Cheers |

Ideally pinion gears should never be separated from their crown wheels. |

Thanks for the info. I know it's not ideal but if I have all the parts here I'll do it anyway.  There's also a chance that the entire matching assembly is there, but as there's a few random 3.9 parts parts in the box too, it's a bit of a mystery. Cheers. |

Pinion depth is going to be issue. I’d be surprised if you bed up with an acceptable setup. |

I'll let you know how it goes. There is a reasonable chance there is a matching pair amongst this box of parts. |

Great success! I threw a rear diff center together from all the parts using my best guess, to match things up to their original configuration. I gave the center to my diff guy to setup and he was happy, it setup perfectly and I now have the diff I needed . Now, if I can find some standard height leaf springs I will be ready for RWC... Finding these is proving to be a PITA. Cheers guys. |
