Hey guys

i have just checked my diff ratios but counting how many times the flange on the diff turns to 1 revolution of the wheel. My only turns twice to a full revolution of the wheel. What ratio does this mean i have??

This doesn't seem right to me so any help will be good.

make sure that your only spinning one wheel not both.... and that would mean 2:1, which is wrong

I only lifted 1 wheel off the ground and so only 1 wheel is spinning. That does not sounds right to me either that is why i am asking.

Any one else know what it could be??

You need to have both wheels off the ground so that both wheels can spin. With only one wheel turning the wheel will travel twice the distance than normal. From this you could surmise that you diff ratio is 4:1 but since the ratio's are from 3.7:1 to 4.11:1 this method is not accurate enough for what you want. It is best to turn the tail shaft rather than the wheel and work it out from there IE; how many turns of shaft to 1 turn of the wheel.

I will jack both wheels up tonight and see what i get with both wheels off the ground. i thought that i must have been doing something wrong.

okay i think that i have a problem somewhere. I lifted both the back wheel in the air last night and tried again. but for some reason when i turned the wheel, the tailshaft didn't turn all the time, it was like something was slipping in the diff. the same thing happened when i turned the tailshaft, the wheels didn't turn all the time. the car was in neutral and the hand brake was off.

have i got a problem or am i still doing it wrong??

Any help will be appreciated.

jack the car up, put the transfer in neutral. and rotate the tail shaft. letting the wheels spin and count this way.

You wont be able to turn the rear tail shaft if you have the transfer in neutral due to the front and rear shafts being locked together in anything except 2wd. sounds like your brakes are dragging on the rear

Are you able to drive the car?? have you had any noises from the rear diff??

Because when mine did as you describe (i.e. turn the tailshaft and the wheels didnt turn constantly) it was because I'd smashed about 4 teeth of the pinion gear = farked diff

Yeah i am able to still drive the car and there doesn't seem to be any noises coming from the rear diff. I am thinking about pulling it apart on the weekend just in case though.
