Was talking to my neighbour about this and weather the original alternater can handle it, 2 normal sized batteries or 1 larger sized? It's a 1lt.

I'm going to go with no...I think it would be to small. Might need an upgrade to a falcom 110A alternator, there has been a pretty recent thread on here about it..have a looky

You would need atleast a 60A altenator ( not the 40A you have now), but an 85A would be perfect.

Depends on what your needs are also...fridge etc. 2 is good if you utilise a deep cycle battery into the equation. Just a thought

i have a 1ltr maruti with a dual battery system and the altenator keeps up with it fine i run my radio,uhf spotties and normal stuff off the main battery but my second battery is a deep cycle which i use for my fridge, power inverter, arb air compressor, tray work light and other camping related stuff but i do have a half hour-forty five minute drive to work and then back which would give it plenty of time to charge i spose

The alternator doesn't care how many batteries are hooked up to it - hook up a hundred - whatever...

The alternator cares how much current you are drawing from those batteries. The batteries are just a tank, and if the hose in is smaller than the hose out, the tanks are going to empty. It doesn't matter how slowly you are filling the tank if you're not draining anything out.

So you need to analyse your load and work out how much alternator you need.

However, fitting the falcon alternator such a no brainer you'd be silly to do anything else.

PS if you are are 1.0 you'll have to eliminate the regulator attached to the firewall under the glovebox. There's some photos on outers posted by christover on how to do this.

after reading the falcon threads you may as well do the swap as you use all the parts you have now and just swap the alternator it saves alot of hassles in the long run. trying to fix electrical problems late at night sucks big time.

dunno how a falcon alt will go on a 1 litre, earlier Bosch style ones are a pretty good fit though

but I'll say it again, unless you are running big loads with the engine running, like lots of lights a massive alternator is a waste of time, lot of batteries are flat out taking more than 20amps of current when charging, unless you are using some expensive AGMs

If you want to run a fridge or whatever with the engine off you want big batteries, alternator wont help you at all, and wont charge the batteries any quicker

Wouldn't a standard alternator wear out its bushes & internal workings quicker than a larger variety??

I see no reason why the falcon mod won't work on a 1.0 - I have one on my 660.
