Post subject:  grease on spring bushes?
just got some new rubber bushes to go in and i want to look after these ones so i want to use the right grease on them.

ive got a tube a tube of these if they will be ok

Castrol APXT
A blue colored grease with enhanced tackiness for improved performance in operating conditions characterized by extremes of heat, vibration and dampness

Castrol EPL2
Chassis lube and wheel bearings.

Either one should be fine its only to let the pins slip rather than squeaking and improve the life of the bushes also gives better ride quality.

Good question. I just bought some grease for my bushes today aswell.
PBR rubber grease. States its a castor oil based grease. Expensive though 110grms for $14.

What you really want to know is does it effect the rubber long term?

I think CASTROL OPTITEMP LG is the go.
Compatible with elastomers based on synthetic materials (e.g. NBR, CR) and Nrbase as well as with rubber.

when i greae my bushes before. i usto grease basicly the whole bush so it will be free for movement in anyway. then i put a little bit of grease on the shackle where the bush sits to always that to slide nice

pbr rubber grease is for brake seals!!!

Try a lanolin base grease. As far as i'm aware its ok on rubber.
Have been using it for quite a while and have'nt had any problems.
Hard to wash out, sticks to everything. As its not for high temp applications it should be alright.

rubber is suppposed to grip the metal surfaces and twist with it, not slide over it

another reason why urethane is better :)

You can grease them, but they will fall apart in the not to distant future. I was always using rubber because of its greater flex but got sick of replacing them. now use urethane and has been all good since

rubber grease won't kill the bushes, but it's pretty useless in the application- it's too light.

Lanolin sounds like a good option of you want to experiment with lubrication

HOWEVER - grit and sand stick to grease, and will then make a grinding paste that will flog everything out anyway.

IMHO regardless of what you do, you'll need to pull everything apart once a year so so for a clean up/bushing replace anyway.

I have seen some very soft urethane, but I'm not sure what their life will be like.

im in the process of putting somwOME springs in at moment. so no lube is the way to go yer? hope so cause i dont want to go and redo it all again.

OME springs come with urethane bushes which benefit from grease or the squeaking will drive you insane.

They do not require any sort of special grease AFAIK - urethane isn't (basically) affected by grease.

About 3 months before my fixed ends split :) lasted years in teh shackles though and that was 40 duro, very spongy :)

Steve beat me to it. If you do want to try Lanolin though, there's a product called Lanotec. Should be able to get it from Ripco and the likes I think
