Post subject:  what thickness sheet for the footwell?
I have the dreaded scourge rust in my coily.
Consequently, I have holes in the footwells, floorpan, etc, that I need to fix.

Am hoping to weld some sheet mild steel in.

What thickness do people tend to use for this with the most success?

I have seen a few pics of people in their build up posts doing this kinda thing and wondered what works out best thickness wise.

Yeah it has a light rust inhibiting layer on it, looks a light grey usually...

For most of my rust repairs I use old car panels.
For several reasons...
1, Recycling is good
2, It's also cheap
3, Car panels have a phosphate coating which inhibits rust. (The older the panel the better coating).
Old door skins and roof turrets are the go but for a footwell a door skin would be plenty large enough.
Wreckers will probably give you an old door.

Shep spec is 16mm quenched & tempered plate :lol:
