Hey guys im new to the whole zuk and 4wd world and am keen to learn as much as possible and are now looking for a sierra.i will be doin some of the usual mods to it like RUF mod, commodore wagon and hiace shocks, extended bumpstops and front and rear lockrights with chromoly axles.My question is i am prity keen on buying a 87 trayback ute sierra, but being a nt can all of the above mods be done to this model aswel.also do the nt diffs have 26 spline rear and 23 front, same as later model wt ?? i think i read somewhere that nt are the same front and rear. cheers guys for any help and feedback. |

NT IMHO is a better starting point, especially a LWB or ute. You can put WT diffs under it with WT flares and gain some width without looking out of the ordinary. Any mods that work for a WT will work for an NT. NT & WT use 26 spline rear and 22 spline front. CRMo axles are 26 spline so if you buy lockrights, buy 2 rears. Jas. |

cheers mate thats what i thought, i know you can fit wt diffs but the width isnt what im really interested in as i assume the small increase could also be achieved with bigger offset wheels and bigger tyres, i just want to make sure that as i progress with the mods i can do the same things that i intended to do too a wt swb sierra.out of interest if i was to use wt diffs is it a case of changing the mounts over on the diff or is there more complicated things needed to be done, im assuming that the extra length then requires wt steering arms etc.My old man is quite handy and we have succesfully mounted a rn25 diff housing to a lj torana using our own made jig, so diff changes isnt really anything new too us. |

I'd be fitting WT diffs before I went to big offset rims as the rims will put big strain on both your wheel bearings and steering. You will need a LOT of offset to match the WT diffs. To fit WT diffs to an NT you will need the front and rear diff as well as the WT tie rod and drag link. Cut the spring perches off the NT front diff and fit to the WT diff. You will understand why when you compare the two. Rear is easier. Both diffs will need the whole centre swapped or at least the flanges. |

cheers mate thats a good little read, dont know how i didnt find that when i did some searches.It seems fairly straight forward just a matter of gettin the wt diffs, drag link and tie rods, then changing the perches with carefull measurements and fitting the nt diff centres.But at the end of the day if the same mods can be done to the nt diffs and suspension,is the effort really worth it for roughly 50mm either side im thinking that a lwb with some offset rims and 31s would be plenty good enough .What do you guys think ?? cheers |

Changing to WT diffs is one off job that runs regular offset rims and looks standard.. Changing to massive offset rims LOOKS modified (illegal) and puts extra strain on bearings and steering... How often do you want to be replacing wheel bearings? WT diffs also have the advantage of more aftermarket goodies... IE: Cr-Mo front axles and super tuff rear axles. |

yes thats a good point, well if i get a lwb ute i guess i will be doin a wt conversion eventually, i might jus use the nt diffs too start off and considering il be using the centres for the conversion il probably put a lockright in the rear diff. |
