Hi all,
I'm soon going to be putting extractors and a 2" exhaust on my stock '92 sierra and have read that once that is done the Carb will be the limiting factor.
For a while i was considering changing to a weber but my stock carb has never given me any issues and i don't want to have to give angles a second thought.
I've read on other forums about people swapping the primary and secondary jets in their carbs and stretching the spring so the secondary opens earlier. Unfortunately the people who have done it seem not to be particularly active and i'm still yet to decide whether it is worth the effort.
Has anyone on here done this change? If so, how great an improvement is is to performance, and what has it done for fuel consumption?
Also, Would swapping to the Vitara carb be worthwhile? Is it as reliable on angles as the stock carb?
And finally, Is it worth thinking about Carburetors at all? Or, is there something else i could be doing to get a little more kick out of my 1.3 Sierra?
Cheers

It's changed since you were a lad a couple of centuries ago.
16 for your learners and you have to wait 6 months before you can go for your P's now
I can't remember if they have changed how long you have to be on your P's before getting a full open licence.

That page makes it sound like the stock jetting is just right the way it is.
So do you think Cams are the way to go? If you could point me in the direction of some of the better topics regarding the options, it would be very much appreciated
Thanks for the replies all and by all means keep them coming!

when you say mild cam, where is the powerband?? There are two cams readily available for a 1.3 and I've been contemplating this myself as my 1.3 is in too good a condition to get rid of for the moment. One cam I've found has the power band between 1000 - 4000 rpm. The other one is between 2000 - 5500 rpm. At this stage I'm thinking the 1000 - 4000 rpm one, as the only time I go above that is when I'm going up a hill on a highway and have to drop it down a gear to keep the speed up. With a bit of extra oomph, I figure I won't need to change down as often.

I've got a re-jetted secondary, extractors and 2" exhaust. It goes really well!! Thoroughly recommend at least re-jetting secondary and see how you like it.
Re-ground cam sounds interesting!! hmmmm....

Who did you go to for you cams Gypsy?
The only site i've been able to find is
http://www.camtechcams.com.au/cat/suzuki.html
but i remember stumbling across another website a while ago but can't find it anymore.
I think they offered two types of cam for a sierra, but just can't find their site.

Do you think 105 and 120 jets would be too rich if i didn't change the cams?
Also, how much of a hassle is it to re-tune the carb after you change the jets?
(i've never had to touch a carb before and am pretty new to the mechanical world) If i can't get it retuned properly, how much will it cost to get it done professionally?
