wide tracks were made from half way through 1988 to halfway through 1996 the most obvious way to tell them apart is the wide tracks have metal flares whereas narrow tracks have rubber flares and WTs have plastic corners on the bumpers that NTs don't have |

Some comparisons: The following table is for Front track (track = centreline of tyre to tyre), rear track and wheelbase (front axle to rear axle): LJ20 F 1090mm R 1100mm W/B 1930mm LJ50 F 1090mm R 1100mm W/B 1930mm LJ80 F 1190mm R 1200mm W/B 1930mm LJ81 F 1190mm R 1200mm W/B 2200mm (Ute) SJ40 F 1210mm R 1220mm W/B 2030mm * SJ40 F 1210mm R 1220mm W/B 2375mm (LWB +Ute) SJ50 F 1210mm R 1220mm W/B 2030mm ** SJ50 F 1210mm R 1220mm W/B 2375mm (LWB + Ute) SJ70 F 1300mm R 1310mm W/B 2030mm SE416 F 1395mm R 1400mm W/B 2200mm (Vitara) * The SJ40 (1.0lt Sierra) was available with either 6.00-16 bar treads or FR78-15 on sunraysia type rims. Subtract 20mm from track for 6.00-16, and the track is the same as for LJ80/81. ** The SJ50 was available as the Narrow track or the first type Wide Track. The figures here represent the N/T specs. SJ70 specs are the same as for SJ50 W/T. |

The Utility was only Narrow Track, but the LWB was produced in Wide Track. The Ute was Discontinued in 87, and the LWB in 88, but demand from farmers for an Ag vehicle saw the Maruti introduced as a N/T LWB in 88 and conversions were done to these to fit an alloy tray, effectively making them a "Ute". |

My 88 WT LWB Was built in Janurary. Genuine Suzuki. Not Maruti. They also call them an SJ51 on the build plate. Not SJ50. |

Well, I did say that 88 was the last year for the Suzuki LWB W/T, didn't I?? Danno was talking about an "88 Ute", and Suzuki had discontinued the Ute in 87 (which was an N/t), and brought in the N/T Maruti to do alloy tray conversions to. I don't believe any of the Suzuki-made W/T LWBs were converted into tray-top Utes. |

The Maruti ute from India - what year did it stop coming into Australia? Were ALL Maruti Utes "NT's" or were the later ones WT? |
