Post subject:  Diff centre - Sealant between carrier and housing
Hi all, Hopefully will get my new/2nd hand diff centre today or tomorrow. Am wondering about sealant between the diff carrier and the axle housing. Is there a specific product I should use or do you guys have any preferences for other products.

No "backyard patch ups" using liquid nails please. LOL :wink:

I use permatex/Loctite Ultra Grey.

The owners manual lists Suzuki Bond No 1215 9900-31110

My Jimny Manual states; Sealant 99000-31110 (same, same, but different??)

any RTV silicon stuff will do the trick.

ultra anything
three bond forma gasket stuff
dont use stuff designed for bike cases like loctite 515 it might be a bit thing for teh surfaces

I use the grey stuff on everything that doesnt get hot. Engine stuff i have been using the red one, seems to work well... no leaks :wink:

U should. If not the Ultra rang is very good for the $$`s, blue is sensor safe to.

whist on the subject anyone have any good tips of getting the carrier out when caked in sealant?

Encouragement with a soft hammer. Otherwise try a flat blade screwdriver and hammer between housing and carrier.

Put a jack under the flange and jack it up slightly. It will crack the seal, just be careful it doesn't come out at the same time.

tried that Damo. the whole kaboodle twists without the "A" arm attached.
next step is to get someone to hold a block of 4x2 against it while I give it a good belt.
if that fails ,remove the entire diff assembly and then I can persuade it more forcefully.
