Hey i heard someone say that a falcon alternator fits a sierra?

what model coon?
and what needs to be done to make it fit?

ef fairmont is what you want out of a I6 car not a V8
you will need to find a pulley that that will fit the alternator and will take a V belt

Yep... As Mike said...
You want a bitsashitty alternator out of an EF or EL Falcon or Fairmont.
100 or 110A respectively..
Run a 10mm drill through the Suzi alt bracket and grind a mm or 2 off the inside of the captive nut in the alt and it bolts straight on...
Upgrading the power cable is recommended.
You may want to swap the alt pulley to V belt or swap your crank and water pump pulleys to multi rib(recommended).

Falcon 110amp alts are a direct bolt in to the sierra bracket but there a few things you will need to do to make it work properly.

easiest way is drill out the holes in the bracket and use the ford bottom bolt. you will need to grind a bit from the sierra top arm to get holes to line up also.

Pulleys can be a PITA but its best to get a Multi V pulley off a Vitara (as it has the correct offset ) for the waterpump and you need the botom multi v crank pulley from a swift.

This is the easiest way to do it but there are other ways but involve more work.

Oh ok cheers guys, my car already has a multi rib on it?? i tried to get a new one from super cheap and they had a v rib one listed. What comes on them standard?

never tried to put one on a 1.6. but it should be simple if all the pulleys line up. The botom bracket might be different but as Vits used a different alt to sierra's.


do a write up if you do it.

I had an EF alt on my 1.3 which I fitted a V pulley to. I have sold that engine now and have a 1.6 with an EF alt with multi rib pulley. I used a 1.3 alt bracket (only because new engine didn't come with one) and had to grind a little bit out of the tension arm as well as a tiny bit out of the alt housing.

Note the underside of the tension arm. I had to notch a bit out so alt could use full sweep of movement.

In this pic you can see the bit I cut off the alt so it can fold against engine block. The removed bit was hitting on water pump.

Looks like the std. Falcon pulley to me. The pulley looks a bit wide for a 4 rib, I think the Falcon ones are 6 rib.

I used a pulley off an old Email XA Falcon alt.. Most alts are a 19mm shaft so your local auto elec or wreckers should have something that will fit and line up OK.. I had to put a washer behind mine to space it forward enough to line up.

*** It is worth the effort to use a multi rib setup.
Depending on the load you put on the alt, the 'V' belt has to be very tight to work without slipping, hence they have a limited life.***

+1 to all of this. I did the install on the 1600 on the weekend. I didn't however need to notch the alternator like shown in the 2nd pic. Just lucky I guess.

Did you use the 1.3 or 1.6 mounts? Are they different? Looking at doing this to my 1.6 sierra. I still have the old engine in the shed with all the bits so I have both mounts at my disposal! Cheers!

I swapped the mount off my 1.3 to the 1.6. I only did this as I already had the 1.3 fitted with the alt and it saved me drilling out the 1.6 mount. The 1.6 had the cast mount that needs drilling. The 1.3 had a pressed metal mount that didn't need drilling. The alternator did fit over both mounts without grinding.

I was thinking about doing the same alt mod for my sierra. I have 1.6 8v vitara engine. Would the swap be same as for the 1.6 EFI vitara engine? Anyone did that mod with that engine? I already have multi rib pulley from vitara. Are those alt expensive?

Alt cost $80 from the wreckers. If you can choose one get one that is not covered in Power Steering fluid. (In the falcon the alt is under the PS pump and they are well known for leaking) I was all excited to do this conversion then i found the it wont fit cause my PS box is in the way. Shattered, :cry: now i have to fabricate a mount to fit it above the Air Con Comp.

I have powersteering and mine has plenty of room for the Falcon alt...
Do you run a Vitara box with a plate adapter?

The alloy bit in the hose I got for $6 off ebay.. The switch is a 95-90 that I got from my local parts shop. I had to redrill and tap the fitting to take the sender but it's all good now.
